How long have you been a photographer? I started professionally shooting in 2006, but took some time off and 2009 was my first FULL year
What do you photograph? (ie babies, weddings, travel…) weddings! Love it!!!
Describe your style: my style is hard to pinpoint, but I consider my work to be fun, artistic, modern, and photojournalistic
Your Camera and gear…I have the Canon 5dMarkii as my main body
If you could only use one lens what would it be? Canon 16-35 2.8L
What camera bag do you use? I carry a Shootsac while shooting, but have a larger bag to tote to and from events
Do you use an assistant or 2nd shooter? For events, yes
If yes, what do you look for in an assistant or 2nd shooter? Someone that is similar in style to me, someone that represents my brand, someone that is outgoing and that can handle shooting by themselves if needed
Which album company do you recommend? Forbeyon, Forbeyon, Forbeyon…they go above and beyond in customer service and they are local to the Dallas area, so you can actually go pick up your final product if you want to!
Mac or PC? Mac
Your go-to camera shop? If I need to rent, I head to Dallas Camera, but I do most of my large purchases online
Standby pose (the one everyone tends to want from you)? I try to do something fresh with clients and do something that represents their style. I try not to pose very much
What makes your job so much easier? Having happy clients helps. A bride that is not completely happy with her dress, her hair, her make-up tends to be stressed out.
What is the most important thing you have learned since becoming a photographer? Don’t aim for perfection….sometimes that wacky out of focus shot is the client’s favorite so have fun and definitely be unique!
Favorite Andie Smith Designs product? I have enjoyed using the PS actions for the Drama set..the black and white conversions are a lot of fun!
Any funny stories from the trenches you would like to share? I was shooting once at an event and noticed another camera person had wet paint ALL OVER HIM. I made a mental note of it and then someone pointed out I was covered in wet paint as well. While I was bidding to get the subject’s attention, I fell. I recovered quickly and continued shooting. I was shooting the Mayor of Dallas and some NBA All-Stars. Later in the day, another camera person said, “hey you are the girl that fell and got paint on you!” I guess I got noticed![]()

One of the things Andie Smith Designs is doing is giving back. We have a section “We Can Help” and proceeds of the products in that section go to a good cause. We are also asking our featured photographers to choose a product to add to the section and a charity/cause to give to.
Amy has chosen the Drama Class Action set proceeds to go to Brides Against Breast Cancer.
